Lyrical & Contemporary

Tuesdays & Saturdays

Lyrical and Contemporary dance each include elements of ballet, jazz and modern dance styles.  Lyrical dance is generally a little more fluid than ballet and also somewhat faster although not as rapidly executed as jazz dance.  Lyrical dance is also smoother and a bit faster than ballet, but not quite as fast as jazz.  Contemporary dance stresses versatility and improvisation, unlike the strict, structured nature of ballet.

Contemporary dance focuses on floorwork, using gravity to pull you down to the floor. This dance genre is often done in bare feet. Contemporary dance can be performed to a variety of music styles, and is an expressive style where dancers can explore freedom of movement, allowing their bodies to freely express their innermost feelings and tell stories.

The movements in Lyrical dance are characterized by fluidity and grace, with the dancer flowing seamlessly from one move to another, holding finishing steps as long as possible. Leaps are exceptionally high and soaring, and turns are fluid and continuous.

Kandy Productions offers classes in combined Contemporary/Lyrical classes which help young performers to explore both the fluid and expressive elements while placing focus on proper technique, body placement, alignment and control.

Like all classes here at Kandy Productions, they are all run by inspiring industry professional teachers who have a desire to produce inspirational dancers and performers.
